De LegacyENDO Apex Access vijlen bestaan uit een set van drie vijlen. Een UNIEKE ISO 15.01 Ni-Ti vijl met een werkbaar gedeelte van 10 mm. Door gebruik te maken van een .01 taper, is deze vijl het ideale vervolg van een handvijl 010. De smalle taper zorgt ervoor dat er minder spanning op de kanalen komt. Vervolgens zorgen twee Controlled Memory vijlen ISO 15 .02 en 20.02, met een werkbaar gedeelte van 16 mm, dat het ideale glijpad van een ISO 020 wordt bereikt. Het voordeel van de Controlled Memory vijlen is de flexibiliteit om zonder stress een glijpad tot een ISO 020 te prepareren. De vijlen hebben een rotatiesnelheid van 350 tpm en passen op iedere standaard endo motor en/of hoekstuk.

Dr. Antonis Chaniotis discusses the tactile-controlled activation technique using controlled-memory files for severely curved and challenging canals.
Conclusions: Controlled-memory files have no shape memory effect, increased flexibility, and fatigue resistance. As a result, they move passively inside the highly curved or double-curved canals guided only by the anatomy and not by the restoring force of other files.

Methylene blue is often used at this point to assess the root for fractures or other irregularities, and to ensure a full resection has been completed. If there is vertical root fracture, this can be readily identified as a crack extending from the canal space to the surface of the root. The methylene blue will stain the periodontal ligament and should be evident on all sides of the resected root surface.

We start to get a clue about what is going on with the publication by Imura et al. in 2001, in which the authors show in 2,000 endodontically treated teeth that those with short filling levels had a higher success rate than teeth with filling material to or in excess of the apex.
This begs the question that if short is better, how short of the radiographic apex do you want to be? Luckily there is a lot of published literature to guide us. (7) In all of these studies and quite a few more, the key number for a higher success rate seems to be a root canal filling ending between 0 mm to 2 mm short of the radiographic apex.
